Kick-start your day with an early wake-up call to witness the natural wonder of the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain in all its glory. Between the hours of 4:00 am and 5:00 am (exact time to be confirmed based on your accommodation details), our team will pick you up directly from your hotel. Our journey begins by heading south from Cusco, traversing picturesque valleys and agricultural communities. Expect a scenic drive of approximately two hours to reach the town of Cusipata (3,329m / 12,772 ft).
Continuing our expedition by van, we’ll traverse a stunning route amidst towering mountains, offering our first glimpses of Ausangate, Cusco’s highest peak. Along this route, we’ll encounter vast herds of alpacas and llamas, along with local shepherds and residents engaged in their daily routines.
Our hike kicks off from Phuluwasipata, lasting around two hours, leading us to the pinnacle of our journey: Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain (or Vinicunca trek) at an elevation of 5,020 mts / 16,470 ft. Here, we’ll pause to marvel at the panoramic views, with extraordinary geological formations that seem to be painted in vibrant hues by nature’s hand. Below stretches a vista of endless valleys and glaciers, as far as the eye can see.

After soaking in the views for about 30 minutes—a perfect interval for rest and refreshment—we’ll commence our descent, roughly lasting an hour and a half, retracing our steps back to Phuluwasipata. Waiting for us there, our transport will whisk us away to a local restaurant in Cusipata for a revitalizing lunch. Post-lunch, there’s an opportunity to visit nearby households, where you can observe age-old customs and lifestyles, still practiced today much as they were during the Inca era. The Quechua language is fluently spoken, and agriculture remains a cornerstone of their livelihood.
To wrap up our Cusco Rainbow Mountain adventure, we’ll have a chance to interact with community members before boarding our private van for the return journey to Cusco. We aim to drop you off at your hotel between 4:30 p.m and 5:30 p.m.
