Our Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu kicks off from the historic Inca site of Tambomachay, situated just outside of Cusco.

Destination for the Day: Qenko: Our primary destination for today is the charming village of Qenko, located near the Golden Lake (Lake Qoricocha). Perched high above Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Qenko is a traditional Andean community where time-honored customs and traditions are still upheld.

Local Livelihood: The majority of Qenko’s residents earn their livelihood by herding llamas and alpacas, showcasing a lifestyle deeply rooted in ancient traditions.

Warm Welcome: Given the infrequent visits from tourists, the villagers of Qenko are always eager to greet and welcome visitors to their community with genuine warmth and hospitality.

Today’s itinerary revolves around two main objectives: immersing ourselves in the customs and culture of the Andean people and exploring the ancient Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo in Peru.

 

Morning Cultural Experience:

  • Local Home Visit: Start your day early with a guided visit to a local Andean family’s home. The locals are renowned for their warm hospitality and are equally curious about visitors. Given the infrequent tourist visits to this remote area, they are always keen to learn about your background and culture.
  • Gift Exchange: Post the visit, you’ll have the chance to present any gifts you’ve brought for the locals and purchase locally crafted items as souvenirs.

Huchuy Qosqo Exploration:

  • Trekking Route: Embark on a trek to Huchuy Qosqo via an original Inca Trail. This scenic trail winds through a serene valley adorned with native flora, fauna, and birds, offering a stark contrast to the high grasslands we’ve traversed earlier.
  • Duration: The trek to Huchuy Qosqo typically takes approximately two and a half hours.
  • Site Tour: Upon reaching Huchuy Qosqo, take a well-deserved break to soak in the breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Subsequently, enjoy a guided tour of the archaeological site to delve into the rich history and culture of the Inca civilization.

Afternoon Journey:

  • Descent to Sacred Valley: In the afternoon, descend to the Sacred Valley and proceed to the village of Lamay.
  • Transportation: From Lamay, board a bus to Ollantaytambo followed by a train ride to Aguas Calientes.

Accommodation:

  • Lodging: Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.
  • Machu Picchu Entry: Begin your day by taking the first bus to Machu Picchu, ensuring you enter the site as it opens to the public.

Guided Tour:
