Departure & Uros Islands Visit
Our Tour to Uros & Taquile Islands begins with a 7:30 am departure from your hotel, where we’ll transport you to the private dock or main port. By 7:45 am, we’ll set sail towards the floating islands of the Uros, which are part of the National Reserve of Lake Titicaca, recognized as the world’s highest navigable lake. En route, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the landscape, while our expert guide enlightens you about the fascinating Uros floating islands.
Today, the Uros people proudly preserve their unique culture and traditions, engaging primarily in artisanal fishing, notably targeting the CARACHI and pejerrey fish. When fish are plentiful, they are sun-dried for preservation. Additionally, the Uros hunt wild birds and collect duck eggs for sustenance. Currently, 75 well-organized islands are inhabited. After an enriching and picturesque visit to the Uros, we’ll bid them farewell and proceed to our next destination, the natural island of Taquile.
Taquile Island Exploration
To reach Taquile Island, our next stop on the Uros Taquile Islands tour, we’ll embark on a 2.5-hour boat journey. Along the way, you’ll be treated to mesmerizing views of the majestic Royal Mountain Range. The people of Taquile are known for their cooperative spirit and organizational skills. Remarkably, Taquileños have showcased their exceptional expertise in textile artistry, earning recognition from UNESCO. Notably, spinning and weaving are predominantly male activities, while women focus on yarn-making and fabric production.
Life on Taquile Island remains largely untouched by modernity. You’ll spend approximately 2 hours exploring the island, including a delightful 1-hour break to savor a traditional lunch. If you wish to contribute to the sustainability of this unique community and help preserve their rich cultural heritage, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase their handcrafted goods voluntarily. By supporting their crafts, you enable the Taquile community to maintain their way of life and continue sharing their culture with future generations.
Return to Puno
Concluding our exploration, we’ll head back to the city of Puno, with an estimated arrival time of 5:00 pm, marking the end of our Tour to Uros & Taquile Islands.
