Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO- SANTA MARIA: BIKING AND RAFTING

Firstly, we will start our adventure 4 days Inca Jungle Trek at 5 am. Our transportation will pick up between 5:00 to 5:30 approximately (time to be reconfirmed). After traveling for 3 hours approximately, we will arrive at the high mountain pass of Malaga (4,350 meters) around 11:00 am. Certainly, we will start our descent on mountain bikes, descending for about 3 hours, passing through small villages, orchards, rivers, and streams, reaching the town Huamanmarca around 1:30 pm. Then, here, our private van will take the group for 30 minutes to the town of Santa Maria. After that, we will begin the rafting trip for the next 2 hours, encountering class III and IV rapids, always accompanied by a professional safety kayak to watch over the group until leaving the river.

DAY 2: SANTA MARIA-SANTA TERESA: TREKKING – INKA JUNGLE TREK

After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our first day of the trekking course to Santa Teresa at 6 AM. As a result, the early 2 hours of our tour is an ascent, but there will be several stops to learn a bit more about the wide variety of flora and fauna that can be found in the region we are in.

One of these stops will be a family house where we will rest for 20 minutes and supply ourselves with more water and some regional tropical fruit. After resting for a bit, we will cross to the section of the Inca Trail that historically connected Machupicchu with the city of Vilcabamba. Then, here our guide will explain to us a bit more about the history of the Incas, as well as the system of communication that existed during that time. At this point, we will also see one of the most impressive views in all of the Huancarccasa Canyon. Afterward, we will descend to the small town of Quellomayo, where we will stop to eat lunch and rest in the nearby hammocks.

Consequently, we continue two more hours on foot to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo, where you will have plenty of time to enjoy the naturally heated water of the bathrooms.

DAY 3: SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES: (TREKKING AND ZIP LINE)

After we wake up and take our breakfast in Santa Teresa, we’ll walk for 20 minutes from the hotel to the natural area where the activity takes place. This canopy activity has 12 platforms and 5 cables suspended 250 meters above the valley. The cables used in the zip lining activity are galvanized stainless steel. The length of these goes anywhere from 500mts. To 1000mts. Once the activity finishes (it last about one hour and a half), well’ be transported to the Hydroelectric.

So, Lunch will be included along the path, and we will have the opportunity to see a series of waterfalls and admire the majesty of the surrounding mountains Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. Here you also have the chance to see an astronomical sundial used by the Incans, as well as other constructions such as the Incan citadel of Machupicchu. After 3 hours of walking, we will arrive in Aguas Calientes alongside the train tracks that lead to the small town.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

This last day starts very early. Firstly, we will wake up at around 5.00 am, have breakfast, and then take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu. There are two good reasons to be at the entrance of Machu Picchu very early:

1. It is well worth the effort to get up early, as the Inca city is quiet early morning. Certainly, you will have plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the sunrise over Machu Picchu.

2. So, our guide will give you a tour around Machu Picchu, telling you about the history of Machu Picchu and the most famous temples and altars. Of course, he will also take you to the classical viewpoint (sacred Rock Hut), this vantage point offers a terrific view of the whole Inka city. After that you’ll have plenty of free time to explore the city on your own or climb one of the neighboring mountains – Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (must be arranged ahead of time).

TRIP BACK TO CUSCO

Your guide will offer to meet you down in the village of Aguas Calientes to enjoy your last lunch in a local restaurant. This is optional and not included. At lunch, your guide will hand out train tickets, so if you choose to skip, please arrange to get these before leaving him at Machu Picchu. Please make sure you are on the platform at least 30 minutes ahead of time. This will be a 2-hour train to Ollantaytambo (based on which train you get), where an driver will meet you and drive you back to the city on our bus, then drop you off at your hotel.
